Statement from Councilman Gentile on Veteran’s Memorial Pier Ferry Feasibility Study
March 10th, 2009 at 9:07 amBAY RIDGE−As the Sunset-Ridge Waterfront Alliance launched an online survey today to determine the feasibility of developing Veteran’s Memorial Pier at 69th Street in Bay Ridge for ferry service, Councilman Vincent Gentile emphasized the need for ferry service between Bay Ridge and Manhattan. He encourages Bay Ridge residents and residents in neighboring communities to weigh in on the issue through the online survey - www.surveymonkey.com/srwaferry2009.
“Last fall, a major non-profit regional planning organization highlighted high-speed ferry service in Bay Ridge as one of the best ways to make up for our neighborhood’s poor transit options,” Councilman Gentile said, citing an October 2008 report released by the Regional Plan Association (www.rpa.org).
“Given the clear need for public transportation options between Bay Ridge and Manhattan and the fact that I secured $500,000 toward the development of ferry service at that pier, this project should be a priority of the city’s,” Councilman Gentile continued.
“I am in complete support of the Sunset-Ridge Waterfront Alliance survey – Heather has been right out in front with me on this issue from the beginning, and hopefully the results of this survey will give the city the push it needs to get this project started.”
