Current Ferry Service in Sunset Park, Brooklyn:

IKEA ferry service from Pier 11:
There is currently a FREE ferry shuttle from Pier 11 (Wall Street) in Manhattan to the Red Hook IKEA store in Brooklyn.
Parking in Sunset Park:
The facility at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (58th St. and 1st Ave — click for a map) has nearly 500 parking spaces directly on a brand new pier that are FREE and secured 24 hours a day. Therefore, if you must drive, the guarded spaces at 58th Street make it a preferable commuting stop to 69th Street Pier. We recommend that people who must drive do so to 58th Street instead of 69th Street, as congestion on Shore Road near the 69th Street Pier is not fair to people in those neighborhoods — especially when there is a guarded lot for parking at the 58th Street Pier.
Future Ferry Service for Bay Ridge:
Ferry service at 69th St. Pier would be ideal for commuters who will take mass transit from the R train at Bay Ridge Ave & 4th Ave, the local B1 or B9 Buses down 69th St. to the pier, or bike/walk along Shore Road to the pier.
The 69th St. Pier stop would be added to the existing BAT ferry service line. The line originates at 58th St. Pier (BAT), would stop at 69th St. Pier, and then transit to Pier 11 (Wall Street) with skip stops to Red Hook. The overall commute time is around 20min. (The current commute time by R train to Wall St. is 45min., and the Express Bus commute time is between 40min-1hr depending on traffic).
TWFM ferry service can pick up this stop as soon as we have approval from the City. In addition, alternate ways can be explored (i.e. renting a barge) in the interim to allow for immediate ferry service to dock at the 69th St. Pier until a spud barge or the like is developed. This would allow options for our commuters, (in times of inclement weather and possible natural or man-made disasters), to transit safely and quickly between boroughs.
Please contact your local elected officials to urge them to continue their efforts to reinstate the 69th St. Pier!
